The approach to Eidfjord promised the best chance (only?) of fjord sailing during early dawn, so I set my alarm to 4am. The darkness and comfort of the inside stateroom got the best of me, and I only emerged to the promenade deck a bit before 5am, when the ship was already approaching the Hardangerbrua bridge, only 1 hour before final docking.
Nonetheless it was a glorious morning: clear sky, barely no wind on the deck. Just you, the deep fjord water and snow-capped mountains.
The Eidfjord village is very pretty, with a couple of easy hiking trails along a whitewater stream and a man-made lake. My kind of port-of-call. No need for museums in every stop.
